Lindsay Quan, Design Strategist
At the age of nine, Lindsay Quan took a chance at the local grocery store and entered the annual Easter coloring contest. Not only did she win the grand prize, a giant Easter basket, she won the year after as well. Her teachers and family saw her as an artist, but she didn’t think she could find a stable career in art until her art teacher recommended graphic design as a possible career path.
Fast forward to post college graduation. She took a job as the sole designer at a public relations firm in Cleveland, Ohio. Within a year she created a small in-house creative department. Her boss was delighted by the amount of revenue the department earned, but for Lindsay the job (and perpetual gray skies) eventually became unfulfilling.
She moved to sunny San Diego and initially freelanced everywhere from brand agencies to hospitals. She worked with brands like New Balance, Sony, Sharp HealthCare, and Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. Then she took a job as senior designer at Provide Commerce, an e-commerce company that is known for brands like ProFlowers and Red Envelope. Working under the Personal Creations brand, she overhauled the catalog, then shifted her focus to the other marketing channels including email, website and social.
In the three years she led the Personal Creations team, she contributed to a 20% growth year over year. Though she found much success, she yearned for something more. She made a list of what she needed in her next job: 1) contribute to unbridled creative, innovative work, 2) show how small design adjustments can have a big impact on the bottom line and 3) help companies define their brand image to differentiate themselves.
Lindsay saw the ability to do all these things and more by joining the Cover Story team. The opportunity to work with this collaborative group and growing client list is one of the most fulfilling paths of her career. She thinks she’s found her giant Easter basket!
